SHOPLIFTERS

SPRING FESTIVAL
WED. APR 24, 2019  at GALAXY .    12 pm

The director, Kore-eda, continues to tell stories of complicated family relationships.  This film takes place in Tokyo where a family is struggling to survive and they resort to shoplifting. They find a young girl who seems to be suffering from abuse and take her in. They support her with a loving, nurturing environment even as her parents are looking for her.
Shoplifters asks the audience to consider which life is more desirable: one full of love and support but dependent on unethical actions or one that is socially accepted but ultimately empty.
