Churchill chronicles the tense days before the D-Day landing in 1944. Winston Churchill, haunted by memories of Gallipoli and the carnage of WWI, is an opponent of the plan. He faces stiff opposition from Eisenhower and General Montgomery and others who favour aggressive action over contemplation. Churchill's wife, Clementine, realizes that he is in danger of unravelling precisely when his country needs him. She, alone, is able to tell him what he needs to hear thus providing a fascinating glimpse into the life and character of Clementine Churchill. The movie takes a more nuanced look at the heavy moral burden placed on those who are responsible for making decisions that may effect thousands of people.
