SAMI BLOOD

A teenage Sámi (Lapp) girl in the 1930s is forcibly removed from her family and sent to a state boarding school that is intended to raise its Indigenous charges to a level "acceptable" to the rest of Swedish society. She is forced to integrate into an educational system that teaches her that her customs and lifestyles are inferior at best. She starts dreaming of another life. To achieve this other life, she has to become someone else and break all ties with her family and culture. Sámi Blood is driven by righteous rage, psychological acuity, and a profound empathy.
