It's 1947 and British colonial rule is coming to an end when Lord Mountbatten and family move into the Viceroy's house for 6 months. As last Viceroy he is tasked with overseeing the country's transition to independence. Soon violence erupts among Muslims, Hindus and Sikhs and effects the 500 staff working in the house. The love between a Muslim and a Hindu servant is engulfed by the tumultuous events and they are forced to make a decision.The movie explores the tragic events as the country is partitioned and the political background at this time of monumental change.
